Hello there. This is the, of course, most recent (January, 2016) version of the Photolist. Enjoy.
Julie Éclair’s Photolist
Note: Guaranteed Smut-free for your protection.
I. Fine Art Nudes.
IV. Tools. (scroll down for these)
A. Fashion Search Engines.
B. Image Search Engines.
V. Other Photography, Fashion, or Design.
All other Art and Photography on other Lists.
The first three categories are collections of sites hand-picked as representative samples of what’s available in each category. I’ve included a mix of old and new sites, and so on.
HQ stands for “High Quality”, and for images, means that they are Hi-Res, clear, and (hopefully) free from any obvious marks including logos. For sites, HQ means that they are laid out clearly and simply, easy to use, or enjoyable to see. Others are as stated. Some of the FAN and Celebrity may contain sexuality, as apart and distinct altogether from porn and smut. Those are addressed below. Underscored URLs link directly from Word. Document (this edition) is Microsoft Word but may be used in Wordpad or Open Office, or other applications. Many in the “nude” areas are merely swimsuits or paparazzi photos. DL means “Dead Link” and is usually followed by the date discovered broken.
Note that I started, in 2013, to include Fashion search engines, sites describing CBIR with demo apps, retail sites, and design sites as well. Those will be in either IV. Tools, or V. Other Photography, Fashion, or Design.
Viewer Discretion is Advised.

This site was one of the oldest on the Web of its kind, and, one of the best back then; and it must have still been online when I first made this List. It is down now; but I have two replacements for it for you: http://fashionscansremastered.net/ }”Welcome To The Supermodel Lounge. Sit Back, Chill, and Enjoy the After-Hours.” These HQ scans have been featured on prominent sites such as The Daily Mail UK, Oh No They Didn’t, Models.com, Fashionista, and many other sites. …And the other one: http://www.hqscan.com/pics/farabe-cottingham/ }yes, HQ Scan is down, but they haven’t taken the storage files off of the server yet. That means that you can find rare, mostly celebrity images here; rare from being old (only 10 years or so but old in our culture), and rare from being minor celebs. I saw some names there I’d never heard of! Page listed is for Farabe Cottingham, for example, and more galleries are listed at the bottom of each page. Medium images, HQ, links all still work, images still on server. 2014 Update: site is down now. However, you can still download from the image cabinet, whatever images are still on the server, from here: https://web.archive.org/web/20110812061328/http://hqscan.com/pics/ }on archive.org. These are very large, HQ, clean images, before they’re gone.

http://www.indienudes.com/main.html }avant-garde; some sexual content. Scroll down immediately to “Photography”. One or more Plusses (+) next to name means more than one site for that photographer. Under Photography links is word “More”, click to see more pages of photographers. Many of these are FAN but some are “Caveat Emptor”. If Word says that it can’t open the page, just copy and paste the URL into your browser’s address bar.
http://inventiveplankton.blogspot.com/ }various. DL 8/2011.
http://www.jiriruzek.net/ }What is it for you? Glamour or nude fine art photography, a fetish, erotic art or boudoir photo or something else? And who cares? For me it is just a nude portrait, a sensual intimate moment, a beautiful woman captured by my camera…Basically, a fine art nude photography can be divided into an informative and an emotive sub-style. An informative art nude photography works with a model’s body as a main element, for emotive art nude photo, which is much more interesting to me, a body is just an addition to a major role of a model’s face, her expression, mood, feelings…

http://abes-celebrities.com/ }has both celebrities and models, including some older photos. The older photos are not as HQ as the newer ones are, and aren’t as large. On this site few are actually nude, most in swimsuits, etc.

Most links lead to galleries, and there, some of the images (after you click on the thumbnails) are large and HQ. Avoid “adult” ads, etc. Sometimes, the links lead to linklists, but these lead to galleries; and those galleries have some images that are large and HQ. If you’re image hunting, you’ll find many sites like these, but google and the other engines never review and annotate these sites for you like I do. That is why it is better to start searching here and not with search engines.

Site says “The web site is currently closed. Trust in Freya, Goddess of Love, Beauty, and War”. Replacement: http://redhairfrecklesandcurves.tumblr.com/page/54 }Pictures of beautiful women of my aesthetic preference. I happen to love redheads. I love freckles. I love a nice pale complexion. Curvy girls are so much more awesome than skinny ones. This blog might not be ONLY curvy, freckly redheads, but a general collection of women that I find beautiful. In this case I’m speaking of the physical sense; there are many physical attributes that contribute to a woman’s beauty. Medium size, medium quality images, artsy/idiosyncratic. Large women also shown.

http://www.idolpleasures.com/index.shtml }clean site, old; HQ but sizes vary. sk. Another older site that is fast and simple. The newest celeb sites should take a lesson from Idol Pleasures. The newer sites are too greedy for money, far too many ads, pages too crowded, hard to read, hard to use. Garbage.

Pictures, med. Quality, med. size, and they have a video gallery as well. For the annoying porn ads, I repeat this advice: get an ad-blocker. I use the Ghostery, which Jae and Jone suggested to me. They also suggested Jesse’s Bookmarklets, which allows me to “zap” a lot of that annoying stuff away. With all that gone, the site is much more friendly.

IV. Tools (related to Photography, Scanning, or Collecting).
A. Fashion Search Engines.
http://www.avenue7.com/ }”Avenue7 is a fashion collage community. Members piece together outfits from images of online products and other decoration items. As a user publishes more outfits and participates in competitions, they develop their stylist profiles and reputation within the community. Avenue7 provides insight into which items work together well in both practical and aspirational contexts.” I didn’t have time to get to the collages, but, that’s what I want to make with the fashion garment or accessory images. I consider this site also Beta. See below.
http://www.chicengine.com/search/results/ }a new fashion search engine. Yes, a fashion search engine. The site and the engine and app are all set-up for Iphone and similar devices, but I was able to find the search engine. In the test shown, the engine returned the results below the pink “click here” button, to match the garment shown in the thumbnail next to the pink “click here” button, which I uploaded from my USB drive. Worked well, yes? None of the garments is an exact match for the jacket that Vika is wearing, but, they are all similar in shape and color. This app was meant for shopping, but from the search results you can also get ideas. Recommended. And here: http://www.chicengine.com/about/ }read about the owner, inventor, and developer of Chic Engine, which follows on the footsteps of Riya’s Like.com, building a smarter, faster, and easier to use fashion search engine where you search using images rather than keywords. Does your friend have that piece of clothing that you are just dying to have but don’t know where to find it? Do you find it frustrating trying to describe clothes in terms of keywords? Do you wish there was a better way? Chic Engine solves all these problems. We have built a search engine that analyzes images rather than the text of the webpage they appear on. So when you upload a picture of a blue shirt, guess what? We find all the blue shirts for you. No more guessing the right combinations of keywords to find what you want.
http://www.empora.com/ }front page of the empora group. (see below)
http://www.empora.com/Portfolio }if you are really seriously into Fashion, if your title is “fashionista” or “fashionfreak”, then you’ll love the mobile apps and such on this page.

http://fashionspider.biz/Shopping }the new Fashion spider, in Beta (FashionSpider is a fashion product search engine, bringing all partnered brands and stores together in one place for consumers – users no longer have to search through many stores online to find and compare products. FashionSpider contains a powerful set of filtering tool including core data (such as price, category & brand) and garment visual data (colour, texture, shape). Additionally, email alerts can be setup for new ranges and price levels, so users can be kept informed about interesting changes.). The empora group acquired Pixsta (The acquisition of Pixsta brought a powerful array of fashion image processing technologies into Empora Group. Prior to the acquisition, Pixsta secured patents covering various key components of the systems & algorithms to create a sustainable competitive advantage in this space. With the company came a passionate team of researchers to continue pushing back the boundaries in this field.), and its personnel and patents and so on; and a very good visual image search engine became owned, private property and not for us any more. But you can have fun shopping for fashions on this site and the empora site, so, do you really care?
http://fitnyc.edu/332.asp }The Fashion Museum. The Museum at FIT, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is one of a select group of specialized fashion museums, including the Musée de la Mode, the Mode Museum, and the Museo de la Moda. For the 100,000 people who visit The Museum at FIT each year, we work to create exhibitions, programs, and publications that are both entertaining and educational. The mission of the Museum is to advance knowledge of fashion through exhibitions, programs and publications. Founded in 1969, the Museum was installed in the current building in 1974, and exhibitions began to be presented in 1975.

http://www.pokki.com/download/?name=Pokki&etag=Pokki_Pokki }the download link for Pokki. They say “Pokki is compromised of two components: the Pokki Menu and the App Store. The Pokki menu adds start menu functionality (especially useful for Windows 8!) to your desktop and enables easy navigation to your favorite applications. The App Store contains tons of great apps with one-click installs to have instant access to your favorite programs and games!“ This is here, since it is where I downloaded the free instagram apps from.
http://psfk.com/ }fashion site. “PSFK Labs plans inspiring storylines that set brands’ content apart.”. I found this: http://www.psfk.com/2014/04/embedded-chip-clothing-information.html }If you happen upon a fabulous fashion find on a friend at a party or on the street, there are quite a few apps you can download that will pull up a similar item for you. Awear Solutions‘ app works a little differently however. It gives you product details on the exact item you scan. Awear Solutions intends for their embedded chips to be the ‘missing link between social and retail.’ In addition to providing product information, the chips could eventually include washing instructions and act as an authenticity tester. Though the Tel Aviv based company is still testing their device, they plan to fully launch their chips by 2015.
http://labs.systemone.at/retrievr/about }the ‘about’ page for Retrievr, and they say there: “retrievr is an experimental service which lets you search and explore in a selection of Flickr images by drawing a rough sketch. One thing to keep in mind is that retrievr doesn’t do object/face/text recognition of any kind, so if you’re drawing an outline sketch of a chair, it almost certainly won’t get you one back (except your index only contains images of chairs). It helps to think of it as matching the most pronounced shapes and slabs of colors. Personally, I see retrievr more as an “exploration” tool than as a “search” tool, and it seems to work very well for that. “ This engine is trying to find similar images, but not like the content-based algorithms you’re familiar with, for example, by the colors, saturation, brightness, etc. So, what does it retrieve? An image with similar shapes, colors, and maybe proportional areas. In my tests, it tried to use the colors and patterns in the original image, in selecting similar images. Otherwise, simple and easy to use, clean page, Recommended for image research.
B. Image Search Engines.
http://www.20search.com/image.php }”The Web’s Best Image Search Engine List!
Pick an image search engine from the image search engine list. Enter your search term, and click search. Your results will open in a new window. If you don’t find what you want, just close the results window, pick a new image search engine and search again (your search term will already be filled in). “
http://www.baidu.com/ }this Chinese search engine also finds images that the others don’t. Sometimes, though, they are ruined by large logos. For image searches, click on 图 片
http://www.blekko.com }I’m including Blekko here since it’s image search is as good as some of the others. Results format similar to google’s. Select images from the menu or learn to use their “slashtags”. Jae Kamel has pointed out to me, that this is a bad term and perpetuates a mistake: “slash” started life as a slang term for the symbol “/”, which is a slant, virgule, solidus, or oblique solidus. From the beginning of PCs, computer people have preferred slang to correct English, probably to hide their lack of knowledge of it. The word caught on, and now a generation of kids has grown up using the wrong term, slash instead of slant, and therefore thinking it was correct. Sadly, it still is not the correct term. Jae went on to say, that when there’s a choice between the two, “\” is called left-slant, and “/” right slant, for reasons obvious enough that a child can see. Neither one is either forward or backward, obviously. -Also, the way the images are displayed, before and after hovering over one or clicking on one, is similar to Bing’s, and both are awkward and not user-friendly. However, Blekko and Bing will sometimes show you images that the other search engines didn’t.
2015 Update: Blekko is gone now; it was acquired by IBM in March 2015.
http://blachan.com/shahi/ }a visual dictionary that combines Wiktionary content with images from flickr, Google, or Yahoo. In my test, only the google tab loaded images; the other two, the spinning wheel.
http://pixolution.does-it.net/index.php?id=2 }pixolution has two product demonstrations here. The first one is a little boring. The second one, displayed the images (250 – selectable) that the terms described, but, their “find similar images” option didn’t work at all.
http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/imageoptimizer/ }Image Optimizer lets you easily optimize your gifs, animated gifs, jpgs, and pngs, so they load as fast as possible on your site. Furthermore, you can easily convert from one image type to another. Upload Size limit: 2.86 MB.
http://www.everystockphoto.com/ }We are a search engine for free photos. These come from many sources and are license-specific. Membership is free and allows you to rate, tag, collect and comment on photos. Newer images very HQ, medium size, also some small and large. No logo on images.
http://suche.freenet.de/ }a German search engine. I was impressed with their image search, and found it almost as good as Ixquick, and better than Dogpile, giving results from many sites, European mostly, that google doesn’t.
http://images.google.com/ }google has a reverse image search now, which must make Tineye very unhappy indeed. It works alright, but I find that Tineye’s is still the better one, when their servers (etc.) are working right.
http://www.imagebrief.com/#/ }this is a rather different sort of image/reverse image search engine. It appears to not use CBIR methods (CBIR links on this page if you need them). After the first image erseulsts are returned, you can then refine the search with keywords. The images returned don’t match the search image visually, but rather match the categories of it. The images are shown shown large, perhaps full-sized; and there are a variety of similar images returned. When you hover over or click on an image, it offers “more like this”. The site says, “Image Sourcing Has Evolved. The only place to search, brief, or hire to get the best shot. Looking for inspiration? Or reckon you’ll know what you’re looking for when you see it? Then browse Collections. All our images are curated and top-notch.Reverse Image Search: Convert mindless hours spent on Google Images and Pinterest into productive work. Take any image, found anywhere, and use it to search for similar images that are commercially available. Initiating increase of smugness levels…Sometimes you’re looking for something so specific that regular old searching doesn’t cut it. It’s free to brief our network of pro
photographers and there’s no obligation to buy, but the images will be so bang on the money that you’ll want to snap them up. Need to shoot a job in Berlin? Or Bangladesh? Or Boston? Use Find a Pro to locate a verified professional photographer anywhere in the world. Yes, anywhere. You can also search by genre, or client. Fancy that.”
https://www.imageidentify.com/ }The Wolfram Language Image Identification Project. The Wolfram Language Image Identification Project is a showcase of one function— ImageIdentify—from the 5,000 that are built into the Wolfram Language. Based on more than 25 years of development, the Wolfram Language is a unique new high-level computer language that builds in as much computational knowledge You can use ImageIdentify interactively in a Wolfram Language session: The Wolfram Language runs interactively on the desktop, cloud, and mobile, as well as on servers, embedded systems, and so on. You can use ImageIdentify (and 5,000 other built-in functions) in any Wolfram Language environment. Go to the URL on the web and mobile, or drag and drop an image, or upload. This engine does not return similar images, but, instead tells you what the image is; and I was impressed by the results. This engine would be more impressive if, after having identified an image using its computational methods, it would then use image search engines to find the name or whatever of what the image is. I told them that in the feedback box.
http://imgops.com/ }ImgOps is a meta-tool that lets you quickly apply many online image utilities to an image. Since the last time that I reviewed imgops for you, it has gotten better. I especially love the black background. Slick features such as hover mouse over links for description, and so on. Its Bing tool doesn’t work; bing always says ‘we can’t find that image’ (paraphrased) regardless of what image it is. Works best with their bookmarklet (), or you can enter a URL. You can also insert http://imgops.com/ in front of any image URL.
https://www.imageraider.com/ }different from either google images or tineye reverse image searches. Search by image on Google, Bing, and Yandex to find websites using up to 20 of your photos. Spend a few minutes adding your photo or image catalogue to Image Raider, and we’ll let you know when we find any websites using them. Upload, image urls, XML sitemap, website, flickr, deviant art, and 500px. An old school site, it is better in some ways, if you want a clear list of the images and their locations, and descriptions.
http://www.incogna.com }Incogna similar image finder. Links to image selected and page image is from, are given. Recommended. Experiment. The major image search engines on the web today don’t even look at the content of their images, they’ve made themselves in text processing, so they only look at each image’s text meta-data. At Incogna, we’re trying a different approach. By using highly parallel processors, we process the shape in every image and use this to build a large scale searchable visual index. With typical desktop processors, this scale of processing is not computationally feasible. But by exploiting processor parallelism to an unprecedented degree, Incogna’s image search technology lets you explore visual data in a whole new way.
http://karmadecay.com/ }a newer reverse-image search. Search by image or URL. Since the downfall of Cydral, and since reverse-image search apps, extensions, and plug-ins don’t obtain results from Yandex or Baidu, this site is a pleasure to see. Really, Tineye and google are about the only general reverse-image search engines left (2jun13). Other reverse-image search, e.g., extensions or plugins, will search specialized sites, etc., and one connects to Jeffrey’s Exif Data, also on this page. Karma Decay, this one, searches Reddit (reddit is a source for what’s new and popular on the web. Users like you provide all of the content and decide, through voting, what’s good and what’s junk. Links that receive community approval bubble up towards #1, so the front page is constantly in motion and (hopefully) filled with fresh, interesting links.), and is the only one that does. It did fair in our tests, but no better; but has very useful links and such when it can’t find an image, etc., so I am Recommending it for those reasons.
http://labs.ideeinc.com/upload/ }another type of reverse image search, based on color palette similarity rather than exact match. I did a test, and it did well on the b & w image, but then failed to respond to the uploaded color image, showing only the ‘spinning wheel’. They need to keep working on this one. 24apr14 Update: I re-tried this today, now the color works. Use the color extractor to extract the colors from an image you’d like to find similar images to. Put the result window on the left of your screen. Open the multicolor search engine on the right side of your screen. Select the color result displayed from the left screen and drag it to the right screen; the colors will appear in “step 2” and the empty boxes will fill with matching images. Recommended.
http://www.kalisteo.org/demo/piria/ }PIRIA is acronym of Program for Indexing and Research Images, by Affinity. It’s a content-based image search engine, this means that the content of the image (color, texture, shapes…) is analyzed to find similar images to an image query. Several descriptors capture color, texture or shape features to create an index (or signature). A parallel version indexed up to 130 millions of images with 3 descriptors that generated nearly 0.5 billion of signatures under 64 elementary processors. The search takes less than 10 seconds with XediX database manager.
http://www.kalisteo.org/demo/scribr/ }ScribR is an Automatic Image Annotation system providing general information about the nature of the image and its content. The detected attributes are: clipart / map / painting / photo; colour / black-and-white; indoor / outdoor. A (frontal) face detection and localization is also performed. Eventually, the image is segmented, and 8 backgrounds are recognized: building, grass, ground, sand, sky, snow, tree, water.
http://viral.image.ntua.gr/?query&id=q14545.jpg }this engine matches your photo (URL or upload) of any city, with similar from their large database. In my tests, it failed the first two, but then worked very well, indeed, in the third test, the page linked to above. Look carefully, and you’ll see that it identified the building on the right in the photo, then (a) returned several photos of that same building, but from different angles, (b) showed which city it’s in, and then (c) showed which street corner(s) in New York the building could be seen (photographed) from. Very impressive, and Highly Recommended for that. However, it also failed the next several tests, including images of cities that it should have been able to easily match. Use this page: http://viral.image.ntua.gr/?upload }to match a photo from a file or URL.
http://www.macroglossa.com/ }Macroglossa is a search engine based on the comparison of images. Have you taken a picture of something you could not identify? You can simply upload the image file to Macroglossa and begin your search. You can select from six different kinds of images that the engine will search for; and then it is slow. However, it can do “artistic” searches, and returns artworks, e.g. paintings, which “match” your input image; I used images of a model, in actual colors. This app could be used for specific kinds of searches. Also, though, it won’t return humans; they are not one of the 6 categories you select from; and so this is SFW and safe for children, as well.
http://www.pictriev.com/ }this is really just a novelty; but if wanted to, Find look-alike celebrities on the web using the face recognition. Results can vary on the resolution or quality of the photo. For the best result, please upload a photo of a frontal face, desirably with the gap between the eyes more than 80 pixels wide. Result is displayed for each face detected. Image files of format jpg(jpeg) with size less than 200K bytes is accepted only.
http://picturesearch.imense.com/ }the immense picture search. I tested it with descriptions of the type of people, and it returned good results, many of them, and quickly. Only flaw, it tended to return mostly portraits and headshots, not showing the full figure in many. I didn’t find the advanced search useful, but you might. When I gave it a harder test, it still returned 303 images. Recommended. Note: it will return no adult-rated images unless you specify them. The “similar results” feature works well.
http://www.pixolu.de/ }this is another visual search engine. Pixolu starts with your descriptors (or use keywords or tags) in your natural language, and then you pick one and it matches the image using its algorithms. I like the color and style of the webpage, and the app & servers were fast. Drag more images to that window, and it will try to match the characteristics of your selected images. I tested using 1 to 4 images, and the program worked well. Recommended. Click on the eye icon on the image, and a page open with the image’s source in a new tab.
http://www.pixolution.de/index.php?id=18 }free image sorter from Pixolu, download from this page. Since this is the beta-version, the entire right-side panel doesn’t’ work, that is, all the “find similar” and image matching parts. So, the “image search” feature was disappointing, and that made the whole app disappointing. However, it was sometimes fun and easy to use, high-res, and did sorts very quickly, including the “sort by color”. Recommended but only as a beta-version. “ImageSorter is a demonstration software, showing the potential of our visual technologies. ImageSorter is not intended to be a substitute to other imaging software but a completion.” Contact me if you can’t find the download link to the best version of it, the one given here. Note that it was discontinued before release. Sorts by contour lines, value areas, and color areas; best of its kind in freeware.

http://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/ }perhaps you will never use this; still, Smush.it uses optimization techniques specific to image format to remove unnecessary bytes from image files. It is a “lossless” tool, which means it optimizes the images without changing their look or visual quality. After Smush.it runs on a web page it reports how many bytes would be saved by optimizing the page’s images and provides a downloadable zip file with the minimized image files.

http://www.webfetch.com/ }yes, most of the “new” image search engines are no good. Cydral, for example, is already down, I never even got a chance to test it. But this new one, Webfetch, is different. And even though it is from Infospace, I found that it did better than Dogpile in our tests, and all the other Infospace products are similar to Dogpile. Webfetch has features that none of the Infospace products have, for image searches; Recommended. 2014 Update: redirects to Zoo, which search engine I found unnecessary. What’s it for? See also Dr. Jone Dae’s answer to that question at http://sdrv.ms/x8nu4J . Mar. 2014 Update: I have used Zoo in other searches and find that it is Ok. It is similar to Dogpile.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBIR }be sure to read this long article on content based image retrieval (CBIR). I’ve found a few dead links, and several commercial, pay sites for this, such as piXserve, but nothing that good. There are other links on this list to tutorials about CBIR.

ColorHexa will also generate matching color schemes such as complementary, split complementary, analogous, triadic, tetradic and monochromatic colors. http://www.FastStone.org }this is my replacement for the Imagine, which has malware hidden in it. It is the same style and generation as the Imagine, but with evne more features, and skins as well. I prefer the dark skins. So, it does everything that Imagine does, and that was a lot, and a little more. Highly Recommended. I have tested and used this app, and it is fast and easy to use, and straightforward. As you know, most apps today (2015) are not straightforward, but require untangling their tricks, traps, idiosyncrasies, and quirks. As well, too many apps are remodeled for “mobile” (i.e., wireless) usage, so they look as stupid as they are.

Still, if you want the Metadata, etc., it’s useful for that, fast, clean site, straightforward, save directly to the usual places. Recommended for those. DL (2/11). 22dec12 Update: http://www.hotlib.com/30385/download-where-is-it-.html }this app, Where Is It?, is the best program for scan collection mgmt, that I have found. This version is shareware, I was unable to find the free version of it today. The next best version, is Picasa. I don’t recommend picasa since it is from google, and since it is a bigger file, and bigger to run. I think you’ll like my recommended choice, but it is only free for 14 days. I tried to find the free version (I had it once) but was unable to.
http://www.getpaint.net/ }this is our other main image app. PaintDotNet has many features that are improved versions of what you would find on MSPaint, the windows bundled app that it was made to replace; but it also has features like those in Pro image processors. http://www.irfanview.com/ }This is, of course, IrfanView. This is highly recommended not only as an image app, but also for playing or showing files in various formats for which you many not have a player, or for when you want a faster app. Example: you’re on windows and have no QuickTime and no apple player; Iview has a built-in apple QuickTime player. A rather long document, and not all that recent, but, here it is if you want to see the engines they found and their descriptions of them. Their section of meta-searching and ‘springboard’ searching was interesting. However, avoid “Search 22” since it leads to DLs and few results, except for, e.g., Picsearch. That is, the ‘springboard’ portals are just forwarding your search terms to other engines, and most of the ones here don’t work, or are DLs.

http://logicnet.dk/Analyzer/ }One of my newer applications is the Image Analyser 1.34. This is one of the best freeware image apps on the Web. So, I use three apps for all my image processing now: this Analyzer, IrfanView, and PaintDotNet. Recommended.

http://paint.net/ }free download of what started as the improved version of mspaint. This is a mid-level app, perfect for those that don’t need the overkill complications of Photoshop or Gimp.
http://www.nyam.pe.kr/ }homepage for Imagine image viewer. This viewer is fast, simple, small, and easy to use, and that makes it Highly Recommended by me. If you have trouble downloading from this location (I didn’t) let me know, and I can find another good download location for you. Note too that there is a Total Commander plug-in for this, that is, the Imagine viewer will operate from within TC, and can be set as its default image viewer, or alternative. Use the plug-in helper with the TC if you decide to use it. I use it there, and by itself as another tool alongside my Main Three image editors. 2015 Update: this application comes from a Korean website, and was made by a Korean man. I have noticed that it tends to crash whatever computer it is running on; and that the malware is hidden in the app’s functions. So, I still use it in the context menu, and the basic view and list functions. If it was not intended to be malware, then something strange – very strange – happens when you attempt to copy of move an image or file with it. The image or file is moved or copied, but after a long time, and the CPU runs and runs during that time. So, I don’t Recommend it now. I keep it only since it is the only image app with the context-menu feature. I Recommend FastStone Image Viewer instead of this one, it is the perfect replacement for Imagine.
http://www.phixr.com/photo/userindex }another simpler, somewhat older and crude editor, but with a full set of tools. Also saves directly to flickr, facebook, picasa, others. Recommended when there are no other apps or online editors available. Sign-in or –up with yr facebook account.

http://www.picmonkey.com/ }one of the better online image editors. Has a few more sophisticated effects tools than the others; for example, it is almost the only online editor which has an adjustable sharpen, and their sharpener works very well, comparable to desktop apps. Fast, easy to use, clean; Highly Recommended.
http://www.picstopin.com/ }an interesting photo collection. Page shown is UFO photos, if it opens to the same page when you visit the site (today is 1apr13, and not an April fool’s joke). This site also has large HQ pics of supermodels, celebrities, and so much more. Very good pic quality, but, it is very hard to find what you want using the site. It has a search bar and category selection, but, to find celebs or models by name I had to use a site search. Now, good engines like Ixquick or even google will do site searches, but, I found my result immediately with Ant (http://www.ant.com/ ). Best way to use Ant: go to the site, then click the little molecule symbol on your Ant toolbar. A page with info about the site appears, and you can search the site from there.
http://www.picture2life.com/Edit/Load/ }a simple, basic online image editor. You can save to picasa web albums or others directly from the app. Works well, easy with a somewhat older look to it. Recommended for a simple editor. Sign-in or –up with yr flickr account.
http://www.pixelmator.com/ – Pixelmator is a photo editing service for Mac users. The design is intuitive. There are selection tools, paintbrushes of various size and shape, retouching tools, layering and much more. You can enhance photos, analyze colors, add text, create stylized scenes with halftones and image blurring.
http://www.pixlr.com/editor/ }online photo editor and graphics tool. It is simple, and runs in your browser. It isn’t as HQ as the computer-run apps, and works to a lesser degree of refinement and accuracy. But it is free and has all the tools you’ll want, so, I still Recommended for a browser image editor. 2014 Update: http://apps.pixlr.com/editor/ }new URL for the Pixlr editor. It is somewhat improved over 5 years ago, however, still doesn’t have an adjustable sharpener. But it does have a noise remover “denoise”, which several of the online editors lack altogether. So, compared to the others, I raising the rating of this one to Highly Recommended.
http://www.pixenate.com/ }no sign-up with this simple, and easy to use editor. Save directly to flickr or yr computer. Primitive, but can be used as an alt. editor. Has no sharpener, so I can’t recommend it.
http://www.prismaticsoftware.com/dupdetector/dupdetector.html }I use this Dup Detector. It is Ok for freeware, but is a little confusing, and I had to do awkward things to make it work correctly, i.e., find duplicates in the folder I specified, then show them to me. However, it is the best of its kind in freeware; and I did a pretty extensive search before finding this one. So, I’d have to Recommend it. 2014 Update: Since that was written, I ‘ve found another freeware duplicate detector, and a third one which didn’t work for me. IMHO none of the freeware duplicate image detectors work the way you’d want and expect.

It provides a quick way to get technical data on an image, from your context menu. Recommended; and the Firefox extension is Highly Recommended. It is called Image Search Options, from http://saucenao.com/ . Best to download it from the FF add-ons page. Of course, you should be using Mozilla Firefox, and not any other browser. Why? Write to me and ask, via Jone Dae: firstname.lastname@example.org. And note: it seems that you can only get to this tool from the extension. If you go to http://www.regex.info , you can’t get to the EXIF tool from there.

http://www.sumoware.com }this is one of the best of the online photo editors. It is full featured, and really seems better so far than the other online editors in this List. Highly Recommended. Signing-up and –in are not straightforward with this site, but the app works well. It uploads directly to the clouds, for example, so you immediately have a URL for yr image. Also, it recommends or asks that you sign-up or –in with http://www.sumo.fm ; but it isn’t clear that this helps in any way. Facebook has changed something technic al which toys with signing-up or –in with it, but the google sign-up or –in seems to work fine. I had it send my user name and psw to my gmail account, so that I knew what they were. But the app itself is straightforward. Note: this will run slowly on a slow system, Recommended for use on faster computers (laptops, notebooks) only.

I use the plugin commander light, here: http://thepluginsite.com/products/picopro/index.htm }however, its use is somewhat confusing. The site says “Using plugins, tubes or other add-ons in a graphics, video or animation application can be a frustrating experience. As your effect collection grows your application needs longer to start up and your menus and lists become cluttered making it very difficult to find the particular effect you are looking for.” They should have also said, how and why do you convert the plugins to various formats, etc. I got the app to make sure that Irfanview and Total Commander had all their plugins available to them. Irfanview has its own plug-in installers downloadable from their site, but the TC plugins are still, not obvious. It is difficult to tell which ones are installed and workings, and which are not. Nevertheless PiCo Light is the best freeware app of its kind.

http://www.uvviewsoft.com/freepro.htm }recently I have added this to my list of image apps. It can be useful as a “backup” for other programs, such as IrfanView. Backups Free File Viewer, and Total Commander; in abilities, Universal Viewer is like at half-way between those two. Recommended; and the Viewer uses the same plugins as the Lister in Total Commander. See also Online Tools : http://sdrv.ms/wkep6I . BTW, it is recommended that you download and use the plug-ins for both TC and this Universal Viewer. 2014 Update: this Universal Viewer will open and show literally any kind of file, with very few limits. It can be used as a web browser! Also opens and shows MHTML, HTM, etc., similar formats. For just images, it is no better than Imagine, and not quite as useful as IrfanView. Recommended.
http://www.zeropaid.com/gimp/ } GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a big program, bigger and fancier than PaintDotNet, and match for Adobe. Some use and like Gimp better; for my images, I use a combination of Irfanview, PaintDotNet, and Analyzer. They have complementary capabilities, and I get very good results using them together. But some photographers swear by Gimp.

I feel that people everywhere, but especially in the still juvenile U.S., should, if they are adults, grow-up and try to act like adults. Delving deeper than decor, Williams invites each resident to share how their ideals have shaped their homes and how their homes have in turn shaped them. At the heart of each living space is an aesthetic shaped by the dweller’s idea of what is essential—whether it’s a collection of inherited French antiques, a table long enough for a dinner party of a dozen or minimalist rooms reserved for creative thought. What each of these homes shares is that they’ve been put together carefully, slowly and with intention.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_sharing }Photo sharing is the publishing or transfer of a user’s digital photos online, thus enabling the user to share them with others (publicly or privately). This function is provided through both websites and applications that facilitate the upload and display of images. The term can also be loosely applied to the use of online photo galleries that are set up and managed by individual users, including photoblogs. Sharing means that other users can view but not necessarily download the photos, users being able to select different copyright options for their photos. While photoblogs tend only to display a chronological view of user-selected medium-sized photos, most photo sharing sites provide multiple views (such as thumbnails and slideshows), the ability to classify photos into albums, as well as add annotations (such as captions or tags) and comments. Some photo sharing sites, even small ones with only a few million photos, provide complete online organization tools equivalent to desktop photo management applications. Desktop photo management applications may include their own photo-sharing features or integration with sites for uploading images to them. There are also desktop applications whose sole function is sharing photos, generally using peer-to-peer networking. Basic photo sharing functionality can be found in applications that allow you to email photos, for example by dragging and dropping them into pre-designed templates. Photo sharing is not confined to the web and personal computers, but is also possible from portable devices such as camera phones, either directly or via MMS. Some cameras now come equipped with wireless networking and similar sharing “functionality”.

1. Q: Are there any other FAN sites you’d recommend?
A: Basically, no. The list above is fairly well updated now (2/11).
2. Q. Any other celeb sites?
A: Again, not really. The Celeb List too has been recently updated. (5/11)
A: (March update): Actually, there are some galleries online that you could look at if you wanted to; here are the URLs, categorized:
-I’ll keep you posted if I find any more of these.
3. Q: What if my app, such as Word or WordPad, won’t link directly to the site?
A: Select the address only, the colored ink part to the left of the curly brace, copy it, and paste it into the address bar of your browser, and then press enter. Then you’re done. Note: if this doesn’t work, please e-mail the “Dead Link” to me right away so that I can delete it from this List. If you receive this list by e-mail, you can also link directly from your e-mail copy of it to the link.
4. Q: I’m looking for a “backdoor” site that will go directly to galleries and sample pages for the various popular pay- and free-sites. Can you recommend one?
A: There are a few left for JPEGs. I recommend instead, some of the blogs which use images made with this list, with the tools and websites listed here. They are: http://ravelpatel.wordpress.com , http://henryjay.wordpress.com , and http://jonedaepics.wordpress.com/ . However, you might like to browse the URLs on the Photobacklist. There are URLs of image sites which are not on this List or the Videolist, but which are relevant.
5. Q: Any other changes?
A: Well, yes, there are several. The notable sites and links that have gone down are noted above. However, the use of blogsites for posting scans and collections has increased 10-fold or more in just that past few years. Remember, some of the info above, including some of the sites, date back to the 1990s. In years, that’s not very far away, less than one generation; but in computer/communications technology years, the 1990s are now very far away. I say, the appearance of NTFS was the herald that signaled the big, big changes everywhere that followed. Some of the images in collections on older sites, are still jpegs from the 1990s or even earlier. I’ve seen online images from as long ago as the 1970s; and no jokes please. They did have images back in the 70s, including on their computers.
6. Q: I noticed above that you referred to your Main Three image processing tools. Which are they?
A: They are, IrfanView with all the plug-ins, PaintDotNet with some of the plug-ins, Michael Vinther’s Image Analyzer, also with all of the plug-ins. Michael Vinther has also written a few plugins for the PaintDotNet. Note: running Image Analyzer or Irfanview with all the plug-ins will not slow them down, but it does slow down Paint.Net, so, pick and choose just the ones you want. Of course, the folders for them will increase in size. Note that I also use Imagine for a second thumbnail viewer. It is also a good image viewer, allows some editing, has many useful features, such as opening an image in other apps you specify.
7. Q: I saw above that you have tested other image tools and Recommend a few. Which are they?
A: Since I already did review them all above, I don’t want to repeat all that here. However, I do sometimes use both the Imagine image tool, and the Picasa3 app, as well. See also the notes for Pixlr and Pixolution above. Since you’ll ask, I again don’t use Photoshop or any other Adobe products if I can, and for very good reasons. Gimp was also too large and complicated for my needs. I like small, fast, simple and easy-to-use apps, and just don’t have the time for vastly complicated monsters like Photoshop that have features I’d never use in 3 lifetimes, let alone just this one. I also avoid all Google apps and products whenever I can. Picasa3 was an exception, since it has some useful features the other apps don’t, and, 2 features that none of the other apps have, (1) the facebook uploader, and (2) the collage maker. It makes collages somewhat crudely and doesn’t give you enough choices, seems like a beta-version sometimes, but it is the best free collage maker I’ve found.
8. Q:Do you have a rèsumé ?
A:Yes of course, but that’s not necessary here. You know that I do all the image and graphics work, and most of the A/V work, for Jae Kamel and Jone Dae, the creators of JKU (Jae Kamel’s URLs); and I still work IRL for my other clients as well.
9. Q:Is it true that you have added (2014) Design sites to this List?
A:Yes. Also, if they’re Fashion-related, I have added Advertising, Marketing, Retail sites.
10. Q: Where can I download the Photobacklist from? You mentioned that I could browse the URLs there.
A: You may download that from here: bitly.com/1uvFgOP .
